The True nature of God and that of a saint is one and the same.
No distinguishing mark of the saint can be mentioned. That in which all exist, that which is all, that which is different from all, and that in which there is absolute non-existence of all is saint. Call Him Brahman, God, the world or saint –it’s all the same.
Practically, whom we call a saint is just a representative of That. Just as a devotee superimposes on the idol his Lord and His attributes, sainthood is superimposed on the body of the Guru and Mahatma; however, in reality, the superimposition of the worshipper is Guru’s true nature.
Practically, Truth, Consciousness and Bliss absolute are superimposed on Him, whereas, in reality, that is His true nature.
The principal aid to the attainment of sainthood is the worship of a living saint. Worship of a saint is the worship of God. To see virtues and vices in a saint is to insult that worship. A saint cannot be identified by any type of behavior. One should not take note of the sect or the garb of a saint. Rather, one should look at his heart.
It is an act of audacity to test a saint. Hundreds and thousands of persons are naturally attracted to a Mahatma without any specific reason, just because of His divine power of penance. How can anyone ever test him? True saints exist in one form or another at all times without fail. Saints alone are the life of society. No society can survive without saints. One should not harbour feelings of hatred on any grounds against saints. In order to attain sainthood one should emulate only saints of the Acharya type (because there are also saints of Paramhansa type).
