The sure-fire mantra for any situation

Once there was a very brave king. His court was full of many eminent intellectuals. One day he called them all and said: “Find a mantra which is never-failing in all circumstances and is capable of countering even the most dangerous situation.”

All the intellectuals set out to find such a mantra. They extensively searched for it in all places but couldn’t find anything. Exhausted and frustrated they approached a Self-realised saint.

The saint gave them a folded piece of paper and said: “Open this in the direst and critical circumstances. You will know what to do when you read it.”

The intellectuals gave the folded piece of paper to the king. The King hid it in his diamond-studded ring and kept it. Whenever the king faced any danger his attention would be drawn to the ring and he would remember the words of the Saint that it should be opened in the most critical and threatening circumstance. Many dangers came and passed. Every time the King thought, it is not the critical condition. Some measures can be taken to solve this problem.

Time passed by. The hour of death of the King arrived. When he was lying on his death bed his attention was drawn to the ring. Then he thought: ‘No, some other measure can be applied even now!”

The courtiers requested: “King! Please open the paper. We want to know what should be done right now.”

The King said: “We should keep our promise. So far as the efficacy of the mantra is concerned it is certainly unfailing. I haven’t felt any threat since I kept it. Every time I was able to find a solution as I could see the events as a witness on the strength of this mantra. I did not let myself get carried away by the events.” And the King expired. As soon as the King took his last breath the courtiers took out the paper from his ring and opened it. It was a blank piece of paper and nothing was written on it. The courtiers could not see a mantra, yet it had worked.

Yah Bhi Dekh, Vah Bhi Dekh. Dekhat Dekhat Aisa Dekh, Mit Jaay Dhokha Rah Jaay Ek.

“See this also and see that also.  Whilst seeing, do so in such a way that the illusion (of the seer, seeing and seen) disappears and One (Pure Consciousness) alone
remains.” The witness attitude or sense of being non-attached is actually a sure-fire mantra for all circumstances. One who gets this mantra in his life tramples on the head of all circumstances and attains his true nature, the Supreme Self, Brahman with the Grace of Guru.
